Religion, politics, war, racism, everything is built on this foundation. In an ideal scenario you would have to zoom out to the max and start reasoning from ground zero (and even then your reasoning is affected by all the biases you have accumulated over your life), or you just believe the truth is what you feel comfortable with, and that’s what most people do.

Certainly reasoning from first principles is key, and combining that with having an open mind and not being over protective of our own egos can go a long way towards freeing ourselves up of whatever bias we might have any given time.

Agreed ;-) But... ;-)

It that was the only factor though, these people would agree with the "traditional" institutions, so that's why mistrust is another meaningful factor.
